RFDI technology

One of the big technological advances related to the logistics field is the RFDI technology (Radio frequency identification), this technology enables the operators by using RFDI tags, to pint point the location of an item in a warehouse without having to move or to know what’s in a container without having to open it……another example is the following the life cycle of the cattle, when you have more than a thousand of cows coming and going, it becomes difficult to put together the production cycle of the calves that includes birth, feed lot, slaughter, distribution and customer. Also the data of the calf’s health can be registered and accessed through the RFDI tag.

Some companies providing RFDI technology are:

Aeroscout
GTR – Datastar

As the Logistics field becomes more important each day for companies, new technologies are developed to gain efficiency and reduce costs; one of the latest advances hit the bottom line operations.

The company Kiva has developed a picking system that works using the voice of the employees. Now the employee has the eyes and hands free for the picking. No computer screens or paper lists are necessary now for the picking since the computer tells the worker were to go when the employee asks for tasks, until the order is complete. Quoting Kiva a company using this system will improve productivity from 30% to 50% with a low investment.
